President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, have received praise from a social-cultural group in the North Central zone operating under the auspices of the Plateau Humanitarian Vanguard for their swift action in responding to the predicament of communities that were recently attacked by gunmen in Plateau State.

According to PUNCH Online, gunmen in the Plateau State local government areas of Bokkos and Barkin Ladi set fire to roughly 221 homes on Christmas Eve, killing over 100 people. President Tinubu immediately gave Edu the order to take all necessary steps to help the victims of the impacted communities.

Note that on December 28, 2023, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, issued a statement in which he quoted the President as giving the "federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and other relevant agencies to work with the Plateau State Government to deliver immediate humanitarian relief to the affected communities."

As a result, on Wednesday, Edu ordered the distribution of relief supplies, including food and non-food, to the victims of the Plateau State assaults.

Coordinating humanitarian responses as mandated by President Tinubu, the Minister also went to the affected villages to conduct an on-the-ground assessment of the locations with her colleague from the Ministry of Defence and Service Chiefs.

The group responded to this development by saying in a statement on Wednesday night that while these humanitarian efforts may not be able to make up for the lives lost, they "can give the people the sense of belonging and ameliorate the momentous pains occasioned by the unfortunate attacks" in the face of hunger and unhappiness brought on by the attacks.
